Global Issues

Global issues are always a though topic to discuss because the issue maybe easy to identify but bringing together an entire planet to resolve that issue is the problem. A global issue that has gained popularity in the recent years has been global warming. Global warming, which is the gradual increase of the overall temperature of the earths atmosphere, is caused by excess and untreated waste which is put under the category of pollution. Global warming interested me as a topic because scientists say that we have only 12 years to reverse the effect or the damage will be permanent. This is interesting to me because as a citizen of Earth I do care about the planet and I want to take action in anyway that I can. It should be in our human nature to protect where we live, we need to be more cautious about our actions because they could lead to detrimental consequences.

As an effective story I would want to show the beautiful parts of the globe and make a simulated world that shows what it could be like if we don’t take action in the war against global warming. The idea would be to go to as many countries in the world and take aerial footage of the most beautiful parts of the country and compile them into a video that would move emotions and raise awareness. I wouldn’t want to just raise awareness but also open a gateway for people to help in preventing global warming with options to get involved. I think if people saw what could happen to our planet if we don’t stop destroying it the way we are then we could have an effective way of gaining awareness for global warming.

Design Thinking

Design thinking is 5 step plan for innovating; the five steps being empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test. From what I learned, the design thinking process is around to have people set a plan for their idea and encourage people to stick with their idea. I think design thinking is a more in depth system to the two week plan so it might take more time to setup but it can help plan for long term goals with more short term detail. It also encourages you to consider more factors and think outside the box. I thought it was really organized but creative at the same time so I would consider using it in the future.

Final Ideas

1.) My first project idea I have, that is also the idea that I am most enthusiastic about, is a small aquatic robot that detects and collects trash. I want it to be easily made and simply designed so many of them can be manufactured and released into the ocean. I want the robot to be able to carry a certain amount of waste before it has to be emptied and it must have a battery that can last a minimum of 2 days. I want the robots AI to be able to do three things: movement on its own, recognizing trash, and minimal to no harm to the ecosystem it cleans.

This idea speaks to me the most because I feel it is the most beneficial and impactful to the world we live in today. It is no secret that humans are rapidly using resources and not disposing of trash in the correct matter. There is a lot of pollution in today’s world that is increasing rather than decreasing. I wanted at least one of my project ideas to somehow help the planet which would help people on the long run.

2.) My second idea is a notebook that is an all-in-one classroom. It would be a notebook that can save notes directly to your computer or phone for easy access, it would be able to reuse pages so you don’t need to get a notebook every few months when you run out of space, and it would have some type of video screen on the back so that the teacher can assign videos, assignments, or reading on the internet and have the students be able to access them through there notebook. Also, instead of having a cluster of physical papers the notebook would be able to scan pages and render them onto the screen in the back for later reference. The papers would still be able to written on when it is on the screen.

3.) My third and final idea is an idea I had for a car, it would replace the traditional wiper blades that have been used for a near century. It is a machine that uses wind as a way to get rain drops off the windshield of your car. When the car is stopped it would blow heavy amounts of air from the bottom of the windshield and push all water to the top and sides of the windshield. When in motion it would use the air and wind that hits the front of the car and propels that air in the same motion to the windshield. During times of snow and ice, the windshield would need to be equipped with the same technology used for rear windows which would be coils that heat up the window and melt snow and ice off the windshield.

A Passion

The question at hand:

If school did not have any subjects and the only criterion was learning, what would you study now? Why?

Answer:

It is very interesting to think of this because I always think about what I would have changed in my life if I had all the ambitions and goals I have set for myself know but 10 years ago. I feel if I used my school time to be productive towards the goals I had in mind I would’ve been able to complete them. Towards my younger age I would have loved to be more passionate about reading different types of literature and learning more about cultures and history from around the world, that would include every angle of the story and no bias. I would have committed more time to understanding concepts instead of brushing them off after an assessment, some topics I learn/ed in school are very intriguing but I do not always get to grasp it fully. Towards my later years of high school I would try to learn advanced levels in the things I found most interesting during my earlier years and use that advanced knowledge to better some aspect of the world today (that is why I wanted to read and learn about world news so that I could get ideas for projects in the future). I would try my best to think globally because I know that the US is not the center of the world and there are billions of people all over that are trying to find and fix problems. I would want my studies to be able to find and fix problems globally.
